The salt lakes of La Mata and Torrevieja

Discover the secret of the salt that is extracted from the salt lakes of La Mata and Torrevieja and be wondered by the enchanting pink salt lake. This protected nature reserve extends over a total area of 3,700 hectares, of which no less than 2,100 hectares are covered with water, of which 1,400 hectares in the beautiful lagoon of Torrevieja and another 500 hectare in the natural lake of La Mata.

Torrevieja's salt lake is not only the largest in Europe, but it is also the only salt production area that uses floating machines for salt extraction. The more concentrated the salt in the water, the more abundant the bacteria and the more intense the pink hue of the lake.
