Semana Santa

The Semana Santa of 2024 is just around the corner, one of the most anticipated and intriguing festivals in Spain. From Thursday, March 27th (Maundy Thursday) to Sunday, March 31st (Easter Sunday), the streets of cities across the country will be alive with religious celebrations and processions.

Although the official holidays only fall on these days, the Holy Week actually begins on Sunday, March 24th, with numerous processions taking place in cities such as Valencia, Alicante, Elche, Torrevieja, and many others.

The Semana Santa processions are a deeply rooted tradition organized by hermandades or cofradias, Catholic brotherhoods associated with specific parishes. These processions, which sometimes last for hours, follow carefully planned routes through the city and showcase various pasos, or religious scenes, to the public.

Semana Santa is not only a religious event but also a period when millions of Spaniards travel across the country for a well-deserved holiday. While Andalusia traditionally remains the most popular destination, the stunning Mediterranean coast in the Valencia region also attracts many visitors.

Whether you participate in the processions, soak in the unique atmosphere, or simply relax on a sunny beach, the Semana Santa of 2024 promises to be an unforgettable experience for both locals and visitors from abroad.
